A Commitment to Remembrance

The Poems of Elly Gross: Memories of a Holocaust Survivor

This collection of poetry began when Elly finally entered college in her sixties to fulfill her dream of participating in higher education. Her writing shows the evolution of a unique style, written in the idiom of a lifetime of learning new languages and a love of elemental imagery. These poems evoke a powerful image of the tragedies of the Holocaust.

This book includes 45 poems, each telling a small story, a glimpse behind the eyes of a Survivor. Written in the small hours of the night on a computer system so old it creaks, every story reads like the snippets of a secret diary, filled with reminiscence, pain, love, and hope.

From The Book

"In the memory of our families
who were brutally murdered
we who are still alive
have an obligation.
It is our duty to share
our memories with others.
If we remain silent
it is as if we murder them again."

Reviews

From BN.com

"Excellent I met Elly Gross at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. She was a facinating woman with a powerful story to tell. Her poems touched me in a way no other poem ever has. Each poem tells a story or how she was feeling while being in the Concentration Camps. I highly recommend this book."
